Yes, you may catch legendary. They are super rare and could appear anywhere at anytime. But they are hard to catch. Here are the things you can do when you see one.
1. Go on an adventure with it.
2. Just have it flee and you continue adventure.
3. Try to capture it.
Now, the second option is easiest, but most people will want the third. Here are the rules to catch legendary pokemon.
1. You must have all 8 ribbons or 8 badges.
2. One pokemon must be the same level as the legendary(which is usually 40+)
3. You can only have 1 legendary at a time.
4. It must be a great ball or better.
If you attack a legendary without meeting these, your pokemon will be burnt to a crisp. Sorry, these are rare on the site.
